WASHINGTON — The United Motorcoach Association legislative team will officially announce next week at the UMA Motorcoach EXPO in Birmingham the dates for the annual Bus & Motorcoach Industry Legislative Fly-In, scheduled for April 15–16. Early registration and hotel reservations are now available.

Powered by UMA, the Bus & Motorcoach Industry Legislative Fly-In provides industry members an opportunity to meet directly with lawmakers, advance industry-supported legislation and share key concerns in person.
Walking — and sometimes running — through the halls of Congress gives participants a firsthand view of how the legislative process works. New participants are often surprised to learn they are one of many industries advocating before lawmakers on the same day.
Participants will arrive April 15 for an afternoon of preparation and orientation, followed by prescheduled congressional meetings on April 16. UMA schedules all appointments, and participants should expect to conduct six to eight meetings.
In addition to meetings with their U.S. House representative and U.S. senators, participants are paired with other attendees from their state to support additional congressional visits.
“The surface transportation reauthorization is set to renew in the fall, and this is where many congressional directives that lead to new regulations begin,” said Ken Presley, UMA Vice President, Legislative & Regulatory Affairs & Industry Relations/COO. “This is the time to voice the industry’s position on increased insurance limits, keeping public transit out of charter operations, and ensuring parity with public transit on toll roads.”

Following a day on Capitol Hill, participants typically attend a wrap-up meeting at 4 p.m., unless delayed by late appointments, to share experiences and outcomes.
Shaping legislation is among the most important responsibilities of a national trade association. UMA encourages members to participate in the April 15–16 legislative fly-in. Registration and additional information are available online.
